To conquer the precious gold was the only statement left to make for Eileen Gu in the icy realms of Milano-Cortina 2026. The 22-year-old phenom obtained a victory in the Italian country that will transcend for years. By clinching the Olympic gold in the women's freeski halfpipe final at the Livigno Snow Park in Valtellina, Gu solidified her status as the most decorated freestyle skier in history.

Despite the immense pressure following two silver medal runs earlier in the Games, Gu delivered a performance that felt like a masterclass in resilience and poise.

A record-breaking finish

The final showdown did not begin the way many wanted, as in her opening run, the defending champion faltered, losing her balance on the first trick and earning a mere 30.00 points. For a moment, it seemed the weight of the moment was a bit too much.

However, true champions are defined by their response to adversity and Gu provided duty desire. She returned for her second run with a vengeance 12.5 feet above the pipe and linking a perfect right cork 900 Buick with a left cork 900 tail to earn a commanding 94.00. Not feeling enough with the lead, she pushed even higher on her third and final attempt, scoring a breathtaking 94.75 to leave the field in her wake.

With this victory, Eileen Gu has achieved a feat never done before in freestyle skiing. Across two Olympic Games-Beijing 2022 and Milano-Cortina 2026, she has entered six events and walked away with six medals (three golds and three silvers).

She now holds the record for the most Olympic medals in freestyle skiing by any athlete, male or female, surpassing legends like Canada's Mikael Kingsbury. Furthermore, by medaling in every single Olympic event she has ever entered, Gu joins cross-country skiing icon Lyubov Yegorova as only the second athlete in Winter Games history to complete a "six-for-six" medal record.
