Following a 7-9-1 season, the Dallas Cowboys head into head coach Brian Schottenheimer's second year with a clear need to fortify the defense. Just about everyone knew that side of the ball would struggle in 2025, yet Jerry Jones fired defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus immediately after the season ended.
Eberflus had made mention during the season that having an elite pass-rusher would have made things easier. Of course, that was a not-so-subtle dig at Jones, who traded away Micah Parsons right before the season began. Now, Jones needs to clean up his mess, and he's likely to try to do it through free agency.
Dallas Cowboys could shell out for Trey Hendrickson in free agency
With pass-rusher, and practically every other defensive position, needing an upgrade, Jones' front office could very well have their eyes on an elite player that's set to be a free agent. One Cowboys fan has already started drawing up a contract proposal for Trey Hendrickson, a four-time Pro Bowler whose time with the Cincinnati Bengals is coming to an end.

Other Cowboys fans chimed in and weren't loving the idea of bringing Hendrickson onboard with such a hefty contract. Working against Hendrickson is his age and injury history. He just turned 31 years old and is coming off of a season riddled with injuries that held him out of double digit games.
The Cowboys reportedly explored a trade for Hendrickson at the deadline, so there's definitely some fire behind the smoke. But if Jones ends up signing Hendrickson to a massive contract, after opting to get rid of Parsons who is five years younger, it would be a bad look, once again.
