A woman's alleged 911 call on the day of Nancy Guthrie's abduction reported seeing a woman screaming in a Chevrolet Malibu

Authorities later determined the alarming sighting was not connected to the 84-year-old's disappearance

On the night Nancy Guthrie vanished from her home outside Tucson, Arizona, a separate emergency call described a disturbing scene unfolding just miles away. A woman had reportedly been seen hanging out of a car window, screaming.

The 84-year-old mother of TODAY show host Savannah Guthrie was reported missing on February 1. Investigators have said they suspect she was taken against her will.

As the search stretched into its fourth week, attention turned to a 911 call placed the same night she disappeared, a call that initially appeared potentially significant.

Nancy Grace revealed audio from the emergency dispatch, in which the situation was described in urgent terms.

"The caller is advising they saw a female out of a vehicle window screaming. The vehicle was a dark gray or blue Chevy Malibu. No plates," a 911 dispatcher can be heard saying.

"Advised that the female was hanging out of the window, wearing all black, and the door was also open."

The description fueled speculation because of both its timing and proximity to Nancy's home. Early reports emphasized that authorities "don't know" whether the sighting was connected to her disappearance but noted it occurred near the area and around the time she was believed to have been taken, adding that investigators "can't really discount anything."

Inside Edition chief correspondent Jim Moret underscored the gravity of the report in a video published to the outlet's YouTube channel.

"A chilling 911 call was made to police the night Nancy Guthrie was kidnapped. A police dispatcher sent out an alert about a woman hanging out of the window of a car, and she was screaming," Moret explained.

Authorities rule out connection as search continues

However, as the investigation advanced, law enforcement concluded that the incident described in the 911 call was unrelated to Nancy Guthrie's disappearance.

Jacob Owens, a journalist with KVOA News 4 Tucson, shared the update after speaking with Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos.

"Here near the end of Day 25 into the search for 84 year-old Nancy Guthrie. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos tells me that a 911 call from the night of Guthrie's abduction, about a woman hanging out a car window a few miles from her home and screaming, was found to be NOT related," Owens said.

The determination effectively closed what had been one of the more dramatic leads in the case. While the Chevrolet Malibu sighting generated widespread concern, authorities no longer consider it tied to Nancy's disappearance.

Meanwhile, the broader investigation remains active. Nancy's whereabouts are still unknown, and no suspect has been publicly identified. Investigators have also expanded a no-parking zone around her home, citing concerns about congestion, trespassing and trash along nearby roadways as search efforts continue.
