- UFC. Sean Strickland knocks out Anthony Hernandez in UFC Houston with incredible KOs
The aftermath of UFC Houston on February 21, 2026, left a lot of great things for the history books, but in the middleweight landscape, the game has shifted from a tactical chess match to a royal rumble. That is why Sean Strickland, fresh off a dominant third-round TKO victory over Anthony "Fluffy" Hernandez, has fixed his sights on one man: the undefeated champion, Khamzat Chimaev.
However, not everything is good news for Strickland as former champion and Chimaev rival Robert Whittakerhas a sobering message for him. During a recent sit-down with Submission Radio, Whittaker warned that Strickland's recent success might be confusing him into believing he has a very different kind of physical reality.
Whittaker gives Strickland a reality check
Once the lights on Strickland went off in Houston after stopping Hernandez's eight-fight winning streak, Whittaker argues that "Fluffy's" wrestling is a world away from Chimaev's grappling.
When asked if Strickland's great takedown defense would hold up against Chimaev, Whittaker was brutally honest:
"Yeah, absolutely not there. Having been in there with Chimaev and Sean... it's night and day. Everyone who saw what Chimaev did to Dricus knows it's not the same
Whittaker was having Vietnam flashbacks as he was referring to the main event of UFC 319 in late 2025, where Chimaev dismantled then-champion Dricus Du Plessis over five rounds in Chicago, logging nearly 22 minutes of control time to claim the middleweight crown.
A very tough road to the title
By choosing to hunt Chimaev rather than lobbying for an immediate rematch with Du Plessis, Strickland is taking the path of most resistance. He is banking on his world-class defense and his improved cardio to weather a storm that broke even Robert Whittaker.
However, Chimaev himself replied to Strickland's challenge on his X account:
With this hard reply, the UFC prepares for its summer schedule, but the question remains is Strickland's volume striking can stop the most feared wrestler in the sport, or is he, as Whittaker suggests, dreaming too high.
