Digital communication came to a sudden halt for millions of gamers and remote teams this Wednesday. Discord, the world's leading chat and voice platform, is currently experiencing a major service outage that has left users across the globe unable to connect to voice channels or send messages effectively.
What is happening with Discord?
According to the official Discord Status dashboard and monitoring sites like DownDetector, the disruption began around 7:53 AM PT / 10:53 AM ET. At its peak, more than 14,000 reports were logged within a single hour, with 65% of complaints specifically citing failures in voice communication.
The most widespread issue today is the infamous "Awaiting Endpoint" error. This glitch prevents users from successfully joining a Voice Channel (VC), leaving them stuck on a loading screen. While some users have been able to send text messages, others report that their "Go Live" streams are failing or that direct messages (DMs) are not being delivered.
Official Status Update: "Identified Source"
In a series of updates, Discord's engineering team confirmed they are actively working to resolve the situation. At 1:07 PM PDT, the company provided a hopeful update:
"We believe we have identified the issue and are taking active steps to restore voice traffic. We are working closely with our cloud provider to resolve the networking problem that caused these elevated errors."
By 1:51 PM PDT, the status was upgraded to "Monitoring," suggesting that a fix has been implemented and services should be gradually returning to normal for most regions. However, many users on mobile devices may still experience lingering latency or connection drops.
How to fix Discord connection issues
While the problem is primarily server-side, experts recommend a few steps to help your client reconnect once the servers are stable:
- Restart the App: Fully close Discord (including the system tray on PC) and relaunch it to refresh the API connection.
- Check for Updates: Discord often pushes small patches during outages to help stabilize clients.
- Voice Region Override: If you are a server admin and your voice call is stuck, try manually changing the Voice Region in the channel settings to a different geographical area.
- Wait for the Global Fix: Since this is a "Major Outage," reinstalling the app usually won't help. It is best to wait for the official "Resolved" status.
