- Olympic Games. Lindsey Vonn cries again after an important loss following her serious injury
Today marks one month since Lindsey Vonn crashed in the hills of Cortina d'Ampezzo. However, far from dwelling on the accident that may have ended her career, the 41-year-old skier was thinking about the woman who taught her the meaning of resilience: her late mother, Lindy.
On February 8, Vonn took to the slopes at Olympia delle Tofane in pursuit of her fourth Olympic medal. However, her return to competition lasted a mere 13 seconds.
No sooner had she started than Vonn hit one of the gates, lost control, and crashed into the barrier. The accident left her with multiple fractures in her right leg.
Vonn underwent four surgeries in Italy and one more in the United States. On March 8, International Women's Day, Lindsey found herself at the start of her road to recovery, accompanied by the memory of her mother.
Lindsey's emotional message to her mom
This Sunday, Vonn took to her Instagram Stories to share a photo of Lindy supporting her on the side of the course. "My forever inspo! Love you, Mom," Lindsey captioned the photo.
A second image shows Vonn standing next to her mother in a hospital bed. "The most positive woman I have ever known!!" the skier wrote in the caption.
If she could be positive, so can I!
To conclude her commemoration of International Women's Day, the 2010 Vancouver Olympic champion shared a message expressing her pride in all the women in her life.
"Your strength and love are changing the world for the better," reads the message, originally from the account @morgan.love. "Thank you for everything you do, often unrecognized and long overdue to be seen and celebrated."
The inspiration of Lindsey Vonn
Lindy passed away in 2021 from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a degenerative disease that kills motor neurons. She also suffered a stroke while giving birth to Lindsey, which left her with a slight limp.
Despite everything, Lindy never gave up. "She taught me so much about strength and character, and it's because of the example that my mother set that I was able to overcome whatever obstacle was thrown at me," Vonn affirmed.
On March 8, 2026, Lindsey proved that the lesson had been well learned.
