Jutta Leerdam's Olympic success has now translated into one of the Netherlands' most distinguished civilian honors.

The 27-year-old speed skating standout has been named a Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau, a prestigious Dutch civil and military award reserved for individuals whose contributions are considered significant, longstanding or exceptional to society, the State or the Royal House.

Marking the moment on social media, Leerdam called it, "A big honor."

The recognition follows a headline-grabbing appearance at the Milano Cortina Winter Games, where Leerdam emerged as one of the Netherlands' central figures.

Her performance on the ice delivered both gold and silver, but the journey surrounding those medals proved equally talked about.

Leerdam secured gold in the 1000-meter event, a result that resonated beyond the rink. Her fiancé, Jake Paul, was visibly emotional following the victory.

She later added a silver medal in the 500 meters, narrowly missing a second gold. In the days that followed, the couple was seen at the Olympic Village, proudly displaying her gold medal.

The Games, however, began with scrutiny. Leerdam drew criticism upon arrival in Italy after traveling by private jet. Attention followed when she missed the Opening Ceremony and posted from bed instead. Despite the early distractions, her performances quickly shifted the narrative.

From Olympic spotlight to personal and national milestones

Following the conclusion of the Games, Leerdam traveled again with Paul on his private plane.

Shortly afterward, she accompanied him to the hospital, where he underwent another surgery related to a broken jaw suffered during his December boxing loss to Anthony Joshua. Leerdam shared images of herself at his bedside and pushing him in a wheelchair.

Her return to the Netherlands soon brought news of the knighthood, a distinction that reflects her impact beyond medals. The Order of Orange-Nassau stands as one of the country's most respected honors, typically awarded to individuals whose achievements carry national significance.

Leerdam's Olympic campaign also intersected with a high-profile chapter in her personal life. Paul first reached out to her in 2022 via Instagram, inviting her to appear on his podcast. The pair later met in Miami and went public with their relationship in 2023.
