White House trolls Canada after Team USA's Olympic gold win over rivals

After Team USA defeated Canada for Olympic gold, the White House posted a viral message widely seen as a troll.

The United States conquered Canada-at least that is how it played out during the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics in men's hockey, when Team USA defeated Canada 2-1, a result that delivered the nation's first Olympic gold in the sport since the legendary "Miracle on Ice" at the 1980 Winter Olympics-a victory President Donald Trump is very proud of.

Following the historic win, head coach Mike Sullivan revealed that the team received a personal phone call from President Donald Trump. Far from being a protocol-driven message, Trump spoke with players and coaching staff to describe the triumph as "an inspiration for the country," highlighting the significance of reclaiming Olympic gold after nearly half a century.

The president emphasized the social impact of the game, pointing out how massive audiences and early-morning watch parties brought the nation together. Captain Auston Matthews confirmed the direct tone of the conversation, focused exclusively on recognizing the sporting success and redemption against Canada.

But Trump also sent another message-not to the United States team, but to Canada.

Diplomacy stayed on the ice in Milan. The target of the jabs was former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau. The official U.S. government account resurfaced an old post from Trudeau last year in which, after a Canadian victory, he declared: "You can't take our country - and you can't take our game."

Washington's response required no words: a quote-post featuring an image of a bald eagle dominating a Canadian goose immediately went viral. The gesture was interpreted as the final blow to the maple leaf's hegemony in its quintessential winter sport.

Figures such as Robert Griffin III joined in the mockery, delivering a sharp reply by quoting Trudeau's original post with a blunt: "We took your game."

With this triumph, the United States not only regains the Olympic throne 46 years later, but also wins a war of words that has ignited pride on both sides of the border.

For now, the United States has taken historic revenge, and Canada will have to wait four years for a rematch at the Olympic Games. However, in the NHL, Canada can still try to reclaim a piece of history.
