The Tennessee Titans are in a desperate search for a new head coach. The 2025 season was chaotic, to say the least, for the franchise. Almost everything that could go wrong, went wrong.
However, for 2026, they want to change everything, and that is why the organization has begun an exhaustive search for its next leader. Two names are firmly on the Titans' radar: former Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski, who fell victim to Black Monday, and Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy.
Stefanski's dismissal ended a turbulent chapter in Cleveland, while Nagy represents a familiar figure from one of the league's most consistent offenses. Although this past year was not the best of the decade for the Chiefs, his previous work continues to earn him considerable credit across the NFL.
The options for the Tennessee Titans to become their next head coach
Matt Nagy will be interviewed this Thursday, January 8, 2026, by the Titans' front office, though he will not be the only candidate evaluated by team leadership. Several other names are also under consideration as the franchise attempts to reset its direction.
Lou Anarumo, the defensive coordinator of the Indianapolis Colts, is another option on the list and will have the opportunity to present his vision for the upcoming season. Recently dismissed Browns coach Kevin Stefanski is also scheduled for discussions, as is former Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris.
It is worth noting that Nagy and Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi share a prior working relationship from their time with the Chiefs, a connection that could provide him with a slight edge. Their initial meeting will take place via teleconference, with an in-person interview expected later in January.
The Tennessee Titans' statistics in 2025
The Titans' on-field production in 2025 fell far short of expectations, as the team failed to establish consistency on either side of the ball. The statistics from the recently completed season illustrate the depth of the struggle.
- 166.1 passing yards per game, ranked 30th in the league
- 93.5 rushing yards per game, ranked 30th in the league
- 16.7 points scored per game, ranked 30th in the league
- 28.1 points allowed per game, ranking 28th in the NFL
Quarterback Cam Ward recorded 3,169 passing yards with 15 touchdown throws and a QBR of 30.8. Former Cowboy Tony Pollard also delivered a solid season, rushing for 1,082 yards and five touchdowns, while Chig Okonkwo led receivers with 560 yards and two scores.
The Titans managed only five wins in 2025, and the objective for 2026 is to reverse a season defined by instability. The coming months will determine whether new leadership can restore competitiveness and guide Tennessee toward a more sustainable future after a year that exposed structural flaws across coaching, execution, discipline, preparation, accountability, communication, consistency, resilience, and identity.
