- NFL. The controversial trade that could strengthen the Chiefs' offense in 2026 to win another Super Bowl
Jalen Hurts declined to offer a clear endorsement of his offensive coordinator after the Philadelphia Eagles fell short of a repeat Super Bowl run.
Throughout the 2025 season, Hurts worked under Kevin Patullo, marking his fifth offensive coordinator in as many seasons.
The Eagles' offense struggled at times, finishing with one of the lower total yardage averages among playoff teams, ranking just ahead of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Carolina Panthers.
Sources who spoke to the Daily Mail report that the frustrations came to a head in Sunday's 23-19 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Hurts was unable to gain traction against an injury-depleted defense and made a critical incompletion on fourth down that ended the Eagles' championship hopes.
Despite the disappointment, Hurts left decisions about Patullo's future to team leadership.
"It's too soon to think about that," he said Monday. "I put my trust in Howie. Howie, Nick and Mr. Lurie."
The quarterback stressed the need for a stable offensive identity, describing the importance of finding a "home base" for the unit that could be consistently executed from one half to the next.
A challenging year for the Eagles offense
Hurts acknowledged the difficulties of the season, including two games where he failed to complete a pass in the second half.
Running back Saquon Barkley, who rushed for 865 fewer yards than in the previous season under Kellen Moore, shared the responsibility for the dip in offensive production.
Barkley told reporters who spoke to the Daily Mail, "I think [the media] has to point the finger at one person... Do I think that's fair? No. I don't think that's fair at all."
Hurts also addressed his relationship with wide receiver A.J. Brown, noting that everything remains positive.
"A.J. and I will talk," he said.
Brown, however, did not meet with reporters following the loss, leaving head coach Nick Sirianni to explain a sideline incident between the two.
Other key players, including Lane Johnson and Brandon Graham, were also absent from Monday's media session.
Hurts confirmed that he would provide input on potential offseason moves if consulted.
"My line is always open," he said, leaving the door open for discussion while maintaining a careful, measured approach to decisions about the offensive staff.
