Before last year's NFL Draft, Shedeur Sanders was one of the clear protagonists of the event. At that time, the Colorado Buffaloes quarterback was interviewed by the Giants during the pre-draft process. However, the meeting did not go well, and perhaps from that moment his draft projection plummeted all the way to the fifth round.
According to multiple reports, the Giants arranged an interview in which Sanders was presented with offensive concepts containing intentional mistakes to see if he could identify and analyze them. The quarterback failed to spot some of the errors and became frustrated during the exercise. That alone was enough for the team to close the door on him.
The Giants had been strongly linked to Sanders, but they ultimately made a different decision-and it turned out to be the right one, even though it was initially questioned. Big Blue traded with the Houston Texans and used the 25th overall pick to select Jaxson Dart, who had an outstanding rookie season and has already excited the fanbase.
The Giants are giving Jaxson Dart even more weapons
After Dart's successful rookie season, in which he totaled 24 touchdowns, the team's mission is to ensure he has all the tools needed to bring the Ole Miss product-and the franchise with four Super Bowls-back to the top. The first step was hiring an experienced and successful head coach like John Harbaugh.
Now, the New York Giants are positioned in the upcoming draft with the 5th overall pick. Daniel Jeremiah, in his latest mock draft, projected the Giants to select wide receiver Carnell Tate-a standout talent from Ohio State, a program known for producing NFL-caliber receivers.
Giants fans are already excited about an offense featuring Jaxson Dart throwing passes to Malik Nabers, entering his third year, and rookie Carnell Tate, who totaled nearly 900 receiving yards and 9 touchdowns last NCAA season. Tate is clearly a talent worthy of a top-10 pick.
This is a tough blow for Shedeur Sanders, who, if he becomes the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, would surely want new weapons after Jerry Jeudy's disappointing season as WR1. The Browns hold the 6th and 24th picks, meaning they would need to leapfrog the Giants to get Tate-a very difficult task.
