- Miami Dolphins. Tyreek Hill is out of the Miami Dolphins, and possible destinations emerge
The Miami Dolphins have a lot of work to do if they want to return to the top of the NFL, starting with their quarterback position. However, as a well-known insider pointed out, the road ahead won't be easy, beginning with the unusual situation in the team's locker room.
The Dolphins had a difficult 2016 season. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa never found his rhythm, and head coach Mike McDaniel decided to bench him in Week 16.
However, it was already too late. The team finished with a 7-10 record, in third place in the AFC East, was eliminated from the playoffs, and McDaniel was fired.
The arrival of Jeff Hafley as the new head coach marked another rebuild for the team. However, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport pointed out the unusual situation in their quarterback room.
Ewers' performance complicates the decision in Miami
In a recent episode of The Rich Eisen Show, Rapoport stated, "They [the Dolphins] need to start new, and my guess is with a new quarterback." With Quinn Ewers being the X-factor right now.
"The only thing that's weird for me here is that Quinn Ewers may be good," the insider said. "What we saw last year was pretty promising. I'm really curious what the internal evaluation of him is going to be," he emphasized.
Ewers' numbers in three starts for the Dolphins weren't bad:
- 55 completions on 83 attempts
- 66.3% completion rate
- 622 yards
- 3 touchdowns
- 3 interceptions
- 8 sacks
- 1-2 record
Between Ewers' numbers, Tagovailoa's uncertain situation, and the rumors of veteran Malik Willis' arrival, the Dolphins could find themselves in a complicated situation heading into training camp.
Tagovailoa is on his way out of Miami
With a record of just 6-8, Tagovailoa could be the next to leave the Dolphins. After all, the team already said goodbye to star wide receiver Tyreek Hill this past weekend.
The departure of Hill and other veterans freed up $70 million in salary cap space. A potential Tagovailoa trade could give the team more cap flexibility amidst the Hafley Era restructuring.
Most analysts believe Tagovailoa is nearing the end of his time in Miami. However, neither the player nor the team has commented on the matter yet.
