After the Kansas City Chiefs got crushed by the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, the attention quickly turned to Travis Kelce's potential retirement. If the Chiefs had won that game, Kelce very well may have rode off into the sunset.
Instead, there was real doubt about whether Kelce would come back in 2025. He took a little while to make the decision, but he ultimately came back. Unfortunately, he endured the worst season of his Chiefs career - from a wins and losses perspective. His individual play was quite good, though, and that alone has made his decision for 2026 a bit easier: Kelce wants to come back.
Andy Reid confirms team is talking shop with Travis Kelce for him to return to Chiefs
While nothing is official just yet, and Kelce is technically set to be an unrestricted free agent in less than a month, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has already gotten fans hyped up with his comments on Friday. According to ESPN's Nate Taylor, Reid confirmed that the team is in talks with Kelce on a new contract.
There is communication. That's the main thing. I've said this before: As long as there's communication, I'm good. That means people want to move forward. I think that's where Travis is.
Reid, and Kelce, have made things very clear: the tight end is coming back for a 14th NFL season. Now, it's just about ironing out the financial details. Kelce doesn't want to play anywhere else, and he feels he can keep contributing to a Kansas City offense that needs as much help as it can get.
In his age-36 season, Kelce started all 17 games and led the team in receptions (76), receiving yards (851) and tied for the team lead in receiving touchdowns (5). He still has plenty left in the tank.
