Shedeur Sanders once again sparks debate as AI defends him from fan attacks

It came as a surprise to everyone; however, he ignores the negative reactions

Shedeur Sanders had been at the center of attention even before arriving in the NFL. It is worth recalling what happened to him during the 2025 draft, when he went from being projected as the fifth overall pick to falling all the way to No. 144. That dramatic slide marked the beginning of the circus that would surround him throughout the year.

His arrival with the Cleveland Browns generated, as expected, a wave of comments both in favor and against him. There were countless speculations about whether he would remain on the roster, whether he would head north to the CFL, or even retire without having played a single minute at the professional level.

In the end, everything aligned for him in a way rarely seen in the past. For the young passer, the departures of Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett opened the door. Later, following Dillon Gabriel's concussion, Sanders earned the starting role and, from that moment on, he never relinquished it through the end of the season.

Week after week, many voices closely followed everything the young quarterback did on the gridiron. His numbers were not good. He finished with three wins and four losses in the games he was able to start.

Additionally, he recorded only seven touchdowns in the same number of games, along with a chilling total of ten interceptions. He threw for 1,400 yards and posted a 56.6 percent completion rate on his passes, statistics that quickly fueled criticism.

With numbers like those, it was difficult to imagine anything more for the signal-caller; however, surprises are always possible. Such was the case this past Monday, January 26, 2026, when it was announced that Shedeur Sanders would replace Drake Maye, who will miss the Pro Bowl due to his appearance in the Super Bowl.

AI backs Shredder Sanders

In a direct question posed to Gronk, X's AI explained that Shedeur was selected, in broad terms, because he received support through votes from fans, coaches, and players. It also noted that other players with stronger résumés, such as Lamar Jackson, did not receive enough backing.

This may have been influenced by the recent struggles of the Ravens' passer and his strained relationship with his now former head coach, John Harbaugh.

Shedeur Sanders was added as a Pro Bowl replacement due to injuries involving players such as Patrick Mahomes, Bo Nix, and Daniel Jones, as well as Super Bowl commitments from Drake Maye. Justin Herbert is already on the AFC roster alongside Josh Allen. Lamar Jackson was not initially selected, likely because the Ravens' 2025 performance failed to generate enough votes from players, coaches, and fans. The decision has sparked debate, given Sanders' rookie statistics of seven touchdowns and ten interceptions.

Trevos Lawrence does not receive the same treatment as Shedeur Sanders for the Pro Bowl

It is unusual, to say the least, that Shedeur managed to slip into the Pro Bowl while other players with stronger numbers were left on the outside. One clear example is the Jacksonville Jaguars' quarterback, Trevor Lawrence.

Simply put, the quarterback posted far better numbers, led his team to the postseason, and still went completely unnoticed by the selectors. Perhaps, for the league, Shedeur represents a more important and eye-catching figure than Trevor.

It remains to be seen what kind of expectation Sanders' appearance at the Pro Bowl will generate and whether the NFL's gamble ultimately pays off.
