The controversy that erupted at the end of 2025 involved Sherrone Moore, centered on allegations of infidelity, harassment, and an attempt to enter the apartment of the woman with whom he was romantically involved. Ultimately, the coach spent time in jail and lost his job with the Michigan Wolverines.

The issue resurfaced this week because Moore returned to court accompanied by his wife, which many interpreted as a sign that she may have forgiven his affair with a former colleague.

She never publicly confirmed that a relationship existed with the man who was her supervisor at the time and who also ended up leaving the university. Nevertheless, the chaos surrounding the controversy had a significant impact on the program as well.

Sherrone Moore's attorney opens the door for a return to coaching

Moore pleaded not guilty to two misdemeanor charges as part of an agreement intended to resolve the more serious case that had been brought against him. In light of that development, his attorney appeared eager to leave the path open for her client to eventually return to the sidelines and lead another football team.

Here is a man who has devoted himself to working hard to get where he needs to be."...'And I can tell you that this is a man who will continue his path and continue his journey, and he will do what it takes to get there.

Attorney Ellen Michaels told reporters Friday in Ann Arbor.

The situation, according to his defense, should not define Moore's entire career. His résumé in football is extensive. He was an offensive lineman at Oklahoma before beginning his coaching career as an assistant under Charlie Strong in 2012 at Louisville.

Later, Moore moved to Central Michigan as an assistant coach and eventually joined Jim Harbaugh's staff at Michigan in 2019. During his time with the Wolverines, the program reached the pinnacle of college football by winning the national championship in 2023. After Harbaugh left to coach the Los Angeles Rams, Moore stepped into the role, although he later faced suspension following an NCAA sanction connected to the sign-stealing controversy.

Will it be easy for Sherrone Moore to coach again?

The reality is that such a comeback could prove extremely complicated. For the moment, Moore appears focused on rebuilding the trust of his wife and daughters following the turmoil surrounding the scandal.

He has had the opportunity to be with his daughters, to be with his wife, to be home for the holidays, to take his kids to swim lessons."...'As somebody who came up the coaching tree and became a head coach at a young age, that is something he missed out on.

Michaels said.

It is important to recall that the University of Michigan accused the coach of having an affair with a member of his staff, something Moore later acknowledged during questioning by police. The relationship reportedly lasted about two years.

The charges stemmed from an incident in which he allegedly entered the woman's home without permission and attempted to harm himself using a butter knife and kitchen scissors.

Although the woman's name was not officially disclosed, reports indicated she was Paige Shiver, who had served as Moore's personal assistant for several years. In exchange for the dismissal of certain charges, Moore agreed to plead not guilty to two misdemeanors, including malicious use of a cellphone in a private relationship and trespassing.

Sentencing for the remaining charges has been scheduled for April 14 at 2:00 in the afternoon.

We maintain that the felony stalking charge and the entering without permission charge, all the charges against Mr. Moore, were not supported by facts of law."...'After the court granted our motion for a Franks hearing (where a defendant can challenge the truthfulness of statements made by law enforcement in a search warrant affidavit), and the omissions in the detective's affidavit were examined, those charges have been dismissed.

Ellen Michael

The dismissal of those charges validates the concerns we raised about the investigation from the very beginning. Mr. Moore is pleased to put this behind him and move forward.

Michaels told reporters after Friday's hearing.
