Who is Julio César Jasso, the man behind the shooting at the pyramids of Teotihuacán in Mexico?

On Monday, April 20, Mexican society was horrified to learn that the Teotihuacan Archaeological Zone was the scene of a shooting that left 13 people injured and two dead. The incident occurred from the top of the Pyramid of the Moon where an armed man climbed to the top of the site to open fire on people who were enjoying a morning of history and culture. Among those who lost their lives was a Canadian citizen and among the injured was a minor.

Hours after the tragic incident at one of Mexico's most important tourist attractions, it has been revealed that the attacker in Teotihuacan was identified as Julio Cesar Jasso, 27. His voter ID card identifies him as a resident of the GAM district. Witnesses said they heard about 20 gunshots around noon.

Who are the people injured in the Teotihuacan shooting?

After the armed attack against the tourists, authorities from the State of Mexico collected preliminary data indicating that four people were injured by gunfire, while two others were injured after falling from the pyramid. IMSS-Bienestar reported that they received seven people, including a minor, as a result of the attack.

The list of people injured in the attack perpetrated by Julio Cesar Jasso is as follows:

  • Geronimo Gonzalez Castro, Colombian, 6 years old, two gunshot wounds to the right tibia and fibula
  • Dayana Paola Castro Calderon, Colombian, 37 years old, gunshot wound to left kneecap and right buttock
  • Delicia Li de Yong, Canadian, 29 years old, gunshot wound to the right supra scapular
  • Maikol Michelle Mitrocil, Russian, 32 years old, gunshot wound to the femur
  • Luisa Fernanda Puentes Alzate, Colombian, 22 years old, musculoskeletal injuries
  • Francis Arlette Rivero, Brazilian, 55 years old, musculoskeletal injuries
  • Jaslin Landaverde, American, 26 years old, musculoskeletal injuries
  • Gregoire Magadini, American, 38 years old, musculoskeletal injuries
  • Jalen Aybar, American, 27 years old, dermo abrasion wound
  • Leticia Mondes Foista, Brazilian, 13 years old, injured by gunshot
  • Alejandra Graciano, 34, from the United States, musculoskeletal injury
  • Alex Daniel Marco Witz, American, 29 years old, gunshot wound to the left hand with an exit wound
  • Barriet-D Marco Witz, American, 61 years old, gunshot wound to the left thigh, vaginal bleeding, possible injury

In addition to these cases, people injured by falls while trying to escape the shooting on the pyramid stairs were treated at the scene and therefore did not require immediate hospitalization.

Who died after the armed attack in Teotihuacan?

Once public security elements climbed the Pyramid of the Moon to apprehend the aggressor, they realized that the shooter had committed suicide. It has now been revealed that Julio Cesar Jasso was the attacker at the Teotihuacan pyramids. As noted, a Canadian woman is the second deceased person and was the victim of the assailant's bullets. So far, the name of the tourist has not been released.

The Ministry of the Interior (Segob) informed that the Government of Mexico is in contact with the families of the victims inside and outside the country, after the attack in the Archaeological Zone of Teotihuacan

Several videos that have circulated on social networks show the alleged aggressor, dressed in a checkered shirt and wearing a mask, while handling a firearm. The footage also shows a group of people gathered around the Pyramid, possibly threatened.
