- US. Nancy Guthrie suspect: Former FBI agent reveals an arrest could be made imminently
- US. The case of Nancy Guthrie's disappearance ongoing as woman's body is found in a Phoenix canal
Nancy Guthrie has now been missing for more than a month after disappearing from her Tucson home, and concerns about the person or persons responsible are growing.
A retired FBI agent recently raised the alarm that whoever abducted the 84yearold mother of "Today" show cohost Savannah Guthrie may still pose a threat to others.
The abduction, first reported on February 1, remains unsolved despite intense efforts by law enforcement agencies.
Surveillance footage released by the FBI showed a masked individual with gloves and a backpack approaching Guthrie's front door early on the night she vanished, but that person has not yet been identified.
Retired special agent Jennifer Coffindaffer took to social media to express her fears about the case, urging authorities and the public not to lose sight of a critical detail: there could be a violent, unstable individual still at large.
"Another point no one seems to be talking about: There is a kidnapper (at least 1) and a potential murderer (maybe more) on the streets," she said, questioning whether the suspect might try to strike again.
Ongoing risk and unanswered questions
Experts draw comparisons between this case and other highprofile violent abductions, suggesting that even when an abduction appears targeted, the risk of further attacks remains a concern.
"Yes, this seems to be very targeted abduction ... but you still have an individual(s) capable of extreme violence on the loose," Coffindaffer wrote online.
Law enforcement agencies have been tightlipped about many details of the investigation, leading to frustration among experts and family members alike.
Some have urged that authorities share more information with the public so citizens can assist with identifying potential leads, including descriptions of suspicious vehicles or movements near Guthrie's home.
Despite the uncertainties, authorities continue to pursue every lead and have offered rewards for information leading to locating Nancy Guthrie and apprehending those responsible.
The FBI, working alongside the Pima County Sheriff's Office, is using advanced investigative tools while combing through video footage and other evidence gathered at the scene.
The hunt for answers continues
The question of who might be targeted next if the suspect remains free has unsettled both law enforcement and the public.
With no arrests reported and few confirmed sightings, families in the Tucson area and beyond are left hoping that someone will come forward with information that could break the case wide open.
Amid these fears, the search for Nancy Guthrie presses on, with investigators stressing the importance of community assistance as they work to bring this distressing mystery to a resolution.
