The ambitious project to bring Kim Novak's life to the big screen has hit an unexpected snag: the subject of the story herself. The 93-year-old Hollywood legend has publicly expressed her displeasure with the casting of Sydney Sweeney to play her on the big screen, putting the spotlight on a physical aspect that has been a recurring theme in the young star's career.
Kim Novak lashes out at Sydney Sweeney
In a recent interview with The Times of London, Novak did not hold back when referring to the casting of Scandalous, the biopic that will address her high-profile romance with Sammy Davis Jr. in the 1950s. For the classic film icon, Sweeney's choice is an absolute mistake.
She is totally wrong for the role. I would never have approved of her choice
However, the most controversial point came when Novak compared her own image to that of the Euphoria actress, specifically mentioning Sweeney's bust as a factor that distorts the essence of the character. According to Novak, the young actress "stands out too much above the waist," a characteristic that, in her opinion, differs drastically from her own figure and what she projected in her heyday.
The sexualization of Sydney Sweeney
Beyond the aesthetics, Novak fears that the production, directed by Colman Domingo, will get lost in the visual appeal of Sweeney and neglect the emotional depth of his relationship with Davis Jr.
The veteran actress insists that her bond with the musician was based on the search for acceptance, not just physical attraction.
"There's no way it wasn't a sexual relationship because Sydney Sweeney looks sexy all the time. She was totally wrong to play me," Novak added, stressing her concern that the film focuses only on the physical.
