Guadalajara prepares for Intercontinental Playoff: The venue marked by drug violence

On Wednesday, March 18, a FIFA delegation, together with authorities from the Mexican government and the GDL 2026 organizing committee, carried out a comprehensive simulation to review protocols and logistics for the event.

The tour included key points such as the airport, immigration processes, customs and culminated at the Akron Stadium, the venue for the matches. The aim was to ensure that each stage of the transfer and reception of teams and fans runs smoothly.

Government of Mexico supports the organization of the event

Government representative Gabriela Cuevas led the visit and stressed that the country is ready to host both the playoffs and the World Cup.

During his speech, he emphasized the coordination between the three levels of government to ensure efficient processes in areas such as security, civil protection, consumer protection and airport logistics. He also stressed the importance of providing a warm experience for international visitors.

This operation is also part of the preparation for the tournament that will be held in conjunction with the United States and Canada in 2026.

Local authorities aim for exemplary venue

For his part, Juan Jose Frangie, mayor of Zapopan and local coordinator of the event, said that work will continue until the start of the World Cup.

The official stressed that the city is seeking to consolidate itself as one of the best venues for the tournament, both for its infrastructure and for the experience it will offer fans. He also emphasized that the Akron Stadium is fully prepared to host the playoff matches.

The playoffs begin with key clashes on the road to the World Cup

The activity will begin on March 26 with the match between Jamaica and New Caledonia in Guadalajara.

The winner of this duel will face the Congo national team on March 31 for a place in the World Cup, in a series that will decide one of the last qualifiers for the tournament.
