Jayden Daniels left last weekend's game against the Dallas Cowboys after feeling discomfort, and now all fears have been confirmed: the Washington Commanders' quarterback is in serious trouble.

Washington had started the season with intensity and determination. It seemed like this was their year. They showed strength, passion, and energy, playing several impressive games.

Unfortunately, a key injury to their leader, Daniels, changed everything. Although Marcus Mariota stepped in and managed to secure a few wins, the team hasn't been the same.

Now history is repeating itself for the Commanders. Daniels will be sidelined following the injury he sustained against the Cowboys, and Mariota will once again have to take over. The task appears nearly impossible.

According to insider Ian Rapoport, Daniels has already been ruled out for next Sunday's Week 8 matchup against the powerhouse Kansas City Chiefs, who seem to have regained their rhythm and confidence.

Commanders QB Jayden Daniels, who suffered a low-grade hamstring strain on Sunday, is going to be out for MNF against the Chiefs, sources say. Marcus Mariota gets the start.

That was Rapoport's post on his X account.

The team has yet to clarify whether Daniels will miss only this week or potentially more. Washington's struggles with his injuries have severely disrupted their season's consistency and rhythm.

Head coach Dan Quinn will have to find a way to keep his young quarterback from getting hurt again. A crucial part of that plan will be improving protection in the pocket and limiting Daniels' running plays. If he continues to pick up injuries, his long-term effectiveness for the team could be compromised.

Washington faces growing challenges with injuries

For the Commanders, the issue goes beyond Daniels. Two of their primary receivers, Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel Sr., are also sidelined with injuries.

The team hopes both players can return in time for the upcoming game against the Chiefs. Their availability could help Washington at least minimize the impact of facing one of the league's most dominant squads.

This weekend, Marcus Mariota will lead the Commanders' offense for the third time this season. He holds a 1-1 record in 2025, and while he remains a capable and experienced quarterback, his style and efficiency differ significantly from Daniels' dynamic play under center.

Without question, these setbacks are pushing Washington further away from realistic postseason contention and its ambition to remain competitive in a tightly contested NFC race.
