Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams enjoyed a dream season. Their high-powered offense helped coordinator Mike LaFleur land the head coaching job with the Arizona Cardinals. LaFleur's departure left a major void, but the Rams quickly named his replacement.

Although the team fell just short of Super Bowl LX, Stafford earned league MVP honors, while wide receivers Puka Nacua and Davante Adams posted career-best seasons.

This year, the Rams' stars delivered video game-like numbers:

  • Matthew Stafford - 388 completions on 597 attempts, 4,707 yards, 46 touchdown passes, 8 interceptions
  • Puka Nacua - 129 receptions, 1,715 yards, 10 touchdowns
  • Davante Adams - 60 receptions, 789 yards, 14 touchdowns

LaFleur set a high standard, but the Rams believe Nate Scheelhaase can rise to the challenge.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, "The Los Angeles Rams are promoting pass-game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase to offensive coordinator."

Dave Ragone will serve as co-offensive coordinator while continuing his role as quarterbacks coach.

Scheelhaase interviewed with five teams for head coaching positions this offseason, including the Cleveland Browns, Buffalo Bills, and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Though he didn't land a head coaching job, his new role with the Rams could be another step toward that goal.

Who Is Nate Scheelhaase?

Scheelhaase, 35, is considered a rising star in NFL coaching circles. A former Illinois quarterback, he began his coaching career with the Fighting Illini before moving through various college roles.

He joined the Rams in 2024 as an offensive assistant and passing specialist. This promotion marks his first opportunity as an NFL coordinator.

With a star-studded roster and the offensive system inherited from LaFleur, Scheelhaase will be tasked with keeping the Rams' attack among the league's elite.
