- Las Vegas Raiders. Raiders miss out on Jesse Minter as Tom Brady's influence falls short
The Las Vegas Raiders are narrowing their search for a new head coach, and Davis Webb has steadily moved toward the center of attention, as internal momentum and Tom Brady's influence continue shaping the franchise's long-term direction.
Recent reports confirmed that the Raiders completed a second interview with Webb, signaling increased confidence in his profile, while emphasizing a patient approach focused on development, leadership, and sustainable organizational growth.
His rise has been fueled by his reputation as a modern offensive mind, shaped by his experience across several NFL systems, and reinforced by praise from league insiders who view him as one of the most promising young coaches available.
Not much had been reported on the interview early in the process, but Hondo Carpenter later revealed strong internal reactions that shifted perceptions and placed the Denver Broncos assistant firmly on the Raiders' shortlist.
"Davis Webb, who was the 30-year-old passing game coordinator for the Broncos," Carpenter said on the Las Vegas Raiders Insider podcast. "Interviewed with the Raiders.
"And late that night I got some great feedback on the interview. It was told that it was not good. It was phenomenal.
"I would just say this: I think the Raiders were very pleasantly surprised. I wasn't predicting he was going to get a second interview, but it wouldn't have shocked me at all.
"I asked the person I spoke to if there was going to be a second interview, and their exact words were, 'Wouldn't be surprised.'
"That was exactly how they worded it."
And it turns out that a second interview has taken place, as per Adam Schefter, suggesting the Raiders board are very interested in snatching Webb away from their AFC West rivals.
Tom Brady casts judgement on Fernando Mendoza
Meanwhile Tom Brady's growing role within the organization has offered insight into how the Raiders assess young talent, emphasizing maturity, accountability, and long-term potential over short-term performance or name recognition.
During the College Football Playoff National Championship Game, Brady evaluated several prospects, including Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza.
The youngster is due to be the first overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft and is a player whose leadership qualities and steady development reflected the traits Brady values most.
"He's played tremendous all season, 16-0, leading his team," Brady said. "And again, he's another guy that, you know, when you hear him speak, I always kind of judge quarterbacks. I go, 'How would I have answered that?'"
"And he's just a very mature young man, and he's got a bright future, and everybody coming to the league."
"There's still so much room for development. Nobody's a finished product."
Those comments echoed the philosophy guiding the Raiders' coaching search, reinforcing why Webb's patience, adaptability, and emphasis on growth continue resonating with Brady and team leadership.
As the process moves closer to a conclusion, the Raiders appear committed to a long-term rebuild, trusting Brady's perspective and increasingly viewing Webb as a coach capable of growing alongside their young roster.
