Early on during the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Detroit Lions game on Sunday Night Football, it looked like a true shootout was brewing. Despite that, the Lions ended up with only 17 points by the end of the game. That would have been different had their first drive not ended in a field goal, following a 4th and goal touchdown that was nullified by a penalty.

Initially, the touchdown seemed copacetic. No one batted an eye, but after some conversations among the officials, Jared Goff's receiving touchdown on a trick play was wiped away. Social media posts calling the NFL the "No Fun League" quickly poured in, but those jokes turned into serious conspiracy theories shortly after. Now, Lions head coach Dan Campbell has stoked those flames.

Chiefs and Lions game ended with a post-game fight

Lions-Chiefs referees contradict themselves on overturned touchdown

Campebll made an appearance on a local Detroit radio station this week. Naturally, he was asked about the decision to overturn Goff's touchdown. Campbell opted to avoid speaking too much about it, but he said something that contradicted what the head referee claimed following the Lions-Chiefs game.

Campbell claims he was told by a referee on Craig Wrolstad's crew that the decision to overturn the touchdown was made by the replay assistance office in New York. But when interviewed after the game, Wrolstad had said that "we did not have any assistance from Kansas City or New York" on the play in question.

Someone involved in the situation is not telling the truth. It could be Campbell. It could be Wrolstad. Or it could be the other official who told Campbell New York was involved. Whatever the case may be, it's another bad look for the league as Andy Reid's Chiefs get another call to go in their favor.
