The Kansas City Chiefs' strong run game is turning heads this season, especially with the impact of newly returned running back Kareem Hunt.

Following a thrilling Week 9 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where Hunt's late-game heroics secured the victory, Patrick Mahomes shared high praise for the veteran during his Monday postgame interview.

"It's been a thrill to watch," Mahomes said about Hunt's return to Kansas City. "Since he's been back, he's put in the work every single day. He's fully committed, and when we're in those crunch-time moments - late in the fourth quarter or even in overtime - he's the guy who can grind out those tough yards, five or six at a time, and make the defense feel it. Everyone here respects how he's approached this season and brought that drive back into the team."

In his powerful performance, Hunt racked up 27 carries for 106 yards and the game-winning touchdown in overtime, undeterred by the rainy weather and tense atmosphere.

Now in his second stint with the Chiefs, the 29-year-old running back has stepped seamlessly into the role of starter while teammate Isiah Pacheco recovers from a fibula fracture.

Mahomes on Hunt's Late-Game Mentality

Mahomes couldn't emphasize enough how Hunt's presence adds a new dimension to the offense, especially as the game drags on.

"He's eager for the ball, and you can tell that as the game goes on, he gets into a rhythm," Mahomes continued. "Sometimes I'll see passing options outside, but I just think, 'Let's give him the ball and let him go.' Even those five- or six-yard gains start to wear the defense down."

Hunt's workhorse mentality and hard-nosed running style have given Kansas City a physical edge on the ground. His consistency is something Mahomes has come to rely on, further strengthening the Chiefs' offense.

As the Chiefs anticipate Pacheco's return, Mahomes is optimistic that the two running backs will complement each other.

With Hunt's return injecting new energy into Kansas City's backfield, Mahomes seems thrilled to have yet another reliable teammate in high-stakes moments.

This dynamic partnership is bound to add new excitement for fans as the Chiefs continue their successful run this season.
