The impressive performance by Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams against the Dallas Cowboys wasn't enough to convince Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green that the young signal-caller has what it takes to lead the Bears to greatness in the 2025 NFL season.

Despite a dominant win over Dallas, Williams and the Bears now turn their attention to their next challenge: a road matchup against Pete Carroll's Las Vegas Raiders. The victory has boosted Chicago's confidence, and Williams will look to deliver another strong outing. For the rookie quarterback, it's an opportunity to silence doubters and prove he can handle the pressure that comes with being the No. 1 overall pick.

Draymond Green's criticism of Caleb Williams

On Friday, September 26, Green spoke openly about his skepticism toward Williams during an episode of the podcast Why is Draymond Green Talking About Football?, co-hosted by Jordan Schulz. Green said that while he supports the young quarterback, he has lingering doubts about his ability to lead a team deep into the postseason.

The NBA star pointed to Williams' college career at USC as a red flag, noting that despite his individual talent, he failed to guide the Trojans to a championship.

Williams is coming off a stellar game against the Cowboys, where he threw four touchdown passes without a single interception. However, Green remains unconvinced, arguing that one strong performance isn't enough to justify the expectations placed on a top overall draft selection.

I don't think he's ever going to figure it out to the level of what you'd expect from a number one pick.

Green said.

He had a good game. This is the number one pick. He should have a good game.

When Schulz brought up Williams' current numbers, Green responded sharply:

Well, I don't know if he's leading you to a Super Bowl in year two.

Schulz said.

He's not leading you to a Super Bowl in year ten either.

Green fired back.

Green added further criticism, questioning whether Williams has the leadership qualities needed to take a franchise to the top.

What I question is, can he become a great leader? We have not seen that yet in his career.

Fans push back against Green's comments

Many Bears fans quickly came to Williams' defense on social media, criticizing Green for his remarks. Some took shots at the Warriors forward, suggesting he should stay in his lane.

Draymond got CTE from the NBA.

One fan wrote, adding a skull emoji.

Another fan countered Green's argument by bringing up other elite quarterbacks:

How many times have Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson led their teams to the promised land? What about Burrow and Herbert? All of them must not be the guy either?

As Williams prepares for Sunday's game in Las Vegas, he'll have another chance to prove his critics wrong - including Draymond Green.
