Having a talented quarterback is, without a doubt, a priority in today's NFL. But if that player is forced to do practically everything, it becomes nearly impossible for the team to achieve meaningful success.
This is exactly what Josh Allen has experienced with the Buffalo Bills. No one, absolutely no one, questions the signal-caller's immense ability; however, in recent years, he has been forced to make too many plays on his own just to keep the team competitive.
General manager Brandon Beane is fully aware of this situation. That is why the organization is now focused on surrounding Allen with more talent, aiming to collectively overcome postseason challenges once and for all.
Over the past three seasons, the Bills have struggled to produce a wide receiver capable of surpassing the 1,000-yard mark. That, however, appears likely to change heading into the 2026 season.
The Buffalo Bills want to make a key move in the 2026 draft
It has been reported that Beane had dinner with a potential player who could join the Bills in the upcoming draft set to take place in April.
Source: The Buffalo Bills hosted a private dinner last night and held a private workout today in Eugene with Oregon WR Malik Benson."..."Workout was led by Bills WRs coach Drew Terrell. One of the most explosive wideouts in the class, Benson ran 4.37 in Indy & is a buzzing name in the WR bucket.
Ryan Fowler reported via X.
The Bills ranked among the lowest teams in the wide receiver department in 2025, and they are now looking to move past that reality by acquiring a player who can make a real impact.
Neither Khalil Shakir nor Keon Coleman managed to reach even five touchdowns during the season. Both finished with four, which is unacceptable for a team with championship aspirations.
The receiver is projected to be selected on the third day of the draft and is viewed as a potential solution for Buffalo's aerial attack. His numbers speak for themselves:
- 43 receptions in 2025
- 719 yards
- 16.7 yards per reception average
- 6 touchdowns
He has also impressed as a contributor on special teams as a kick returner:
- 17.9 yards per return
- 1 touchdown in 2025
His performance at the NFL Combine also caught the attention of Buffalo's scouts:
- 4.37 seconds in the 40-yard dash
- 1.55 seconds in the 10-yard split
- 32.5-inch vertical jump
This is what Brandon Beane thinks about the player:
We talk about versatility."..."The guys that you love that you can't get your hands on enough are guys like Khalil Shakir, who we got. Khalil is super smart and can play anywhere. He's an inside guy first, but he can go outside and play. Try to have as many different position-less players, so that when you come out of the huddle, that just creates opportunities to get the right mismatch.
On Malik Benson's side, there is also clear interest in joining the Bills and forming a partnership with Josh Allen.
Benson is telling NFL teams he's eager to contribute on special teams on Sundays."..."Not only as a return specialist but also on coverage units, serving as a gunner.
Tony Pauline of EssentiallySports reported.
If this selection materializes, everything indicates that in 2026 Allen could finally have a receiver capable of becoming a true NFL star with immediate impact, significantly elevating Buffalo's offensive potential and overall championship aspirations moving forward this season.
