Sean McDermott's departure marked a new beginning for the Buffalo Bills. Now that their elimination at the hands of the Denver Broncos in the AFC Divisional Round is behind them, the team is fully engaged in the search for a new head coach and has its sights set on a familiar face: none other than Davis Webb.

The 33-30 overtime loss to Denver hit the Bills hard. However, McDermott's departure had been brewing for several seasons.

In nine seasons with the team, McDermott led them to eight playoff appearances, but they never reached the Super Bowl, generating frustration among both the fans and the front office.

Now, the team is looking for someone who can unlock the full potential of quarterback Josh Allen, and management seems to believe Webb has what it takes to take them to that final step.

Webb's Interview with the Bills

Webb is the Broncos' passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach, and had been on the Bills' radar practically since McDermott's departure almost two weeks ago.

According to league rules, Buffalo couldn't approach Webb while Denver was still in contention. However, now that the Broncos have been eliminated, the Bills were finally able to move ahead with their process.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the team announced, "We have completed an interview with Davis Webb for our head coaching position."

Although neither Webb nor the Bills have provided further details about the interview, numerous analysts and insiders claim he is at the top of their list of candidates.

Webb is a longtime acquaintance of Allen's

Davis Webb entered the NFL as the 87th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. He retired in 2022 after brief stints as a quarterback with the Giants, Jets, and, of course, the Bills.

It was during his time at Orchard Park that he became very close to Allen, and they remain great friends to this day. But it's not just his relationship with the team's star quarterback that has him in the running for the head coaching job.

Although he's only 31 years old and lacks head coaching experience, Webb has earned a strong reputation as a quarterback developer and passing game coordinator, which is exactly what the Bills are looking for.
