The NFL kicked off its postseason in spectacular fashion this past weekend, delivering a Wild Card round for the record books. The Rams, Bears, Bills, 49ers, and Patriots all secured their spots in the Divisional Round, but the manner of their victories was truly unprecedented. Every single winner, with the lone exception of the New England Patriots, had to stage a dramatic comeback in the final three minutes of the fourth quarter. Perhaps the most significant storyline came from the road warriors.

The 49ers, Rams, and Bills all pulled off gutsy away wins, with Buffalo securing its first road playoff victory since 1992. For Josh Allen, the win was a personal milestone, he entered the weekend with an 0-4 career record in road playoff games, three of those heartbreakers coming at the hands of Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. By finally conquering the road, Allen has officially put the league on notice that the Bills are no longer just a "home field" threat.

Josh Allen Leads Historic Playoff Stats Among the Greats

In a tense 27-24 victory over the Jaguars, Allen put the team on his back with a 14-play, go-ahead drive in the final frame. The sequence featured a play that will be talked about for years, a 4th & 1 from the Jacksonville 11-yard line where Buffalo called for a "tush push." What started as a simple sneak turned into a 10-yard surge as the Bills' offensive line literally dragged Allen to the goal line. While officials initially called it a touchdown, a review placed him down at the one-yard line.

Allen finished the job on the very next snap, plunging in for his second rushing score of the day. Allen's final line was a masterclass in efficiency, 28-of-35 passing (80%) for 273 yards, plus 33 yards on the ground, totaling three touchdowns with zero interceptions. This performance pushed his career playoff TD-INT ratio to an astounding 26-4, the best in NFL history for any quarterback with at least 300 attempts.

Even his "Kryptonite," Patrick Mahomes, trails in this specific efficiency metric with a 46-10 ratio. Other legends like Aaron Rodgers (45-13), who plays tonight with Pittsburgh in what could be his career finale, and Tom Brady (88-40) simply don't match Allen's clean sheet. Over his last seven playoff games alone, Allen has racked up 1,991 passing yards, 19 total touchdowns, and only one interception.

Yet, despite these video-game numbers, he still lacks a Super Bowl appearance, a gap in his resume that keeps him from being seated at the table with Manning, Brady, and Mahomes.

Allen Most Lead the Bills to Super Bowl 60

The Bills' reward for their Wild Card heroics is a Saturday showdown in Denver against the top-seeded Broncos. The atmosphere at Empower Field at Mile High is expected to be electric, as the Broncos have not hosted a playoff game since their Super Bowl 50 championship run in 2015. For Allen, this represents the greatest opportunity of his eight-year career. With the Chiefs out of the bracket, his biggest hurdle, Patrick Mahomes, is no longer standing in his way.

Allen now holds more playoff experience and wins than any other quarterback remaining in the field, save for the 42-year-old Rodgers. While the path through Denver and potentially a visit to New England or a matchup with the Texans or Steelers won't be easy, the "Mahomes-sized" shadow over Buffalo's season has finally lifted. If Allen can replicate his turnover-free football in the thin Colorado air, he might finally secure the championship ring that his historic statistics suggest he deserves.
