UConn head coach Dan Hurley was issued an official warning by game officials during the first half of Sunday's Elite Eight matchup against top-seeded Duke.
The Huskies' head coach narrowly avoided a technical foul during a first-half officiating dispute before leading a 20-point comeback to secure a spot in the Final Four.
The warning, delivered at Capital One Arena, came as the Huskies struggled to contain a dominant Blue Devils offense that surged to a 19-point lead early in the contest.
The confrontation began as Hurley expressed visible frustration over a significant foul discrepancy. In the first half, UConn was whistled for nine team fouls compared to just three for Duke.
A first-half boiling point
The two-time national champion was seen repeatedly arguing with officials and eventually stepped onto the court to protest a call.
Officials warned Hurley to remain within the coach's box, noting that any further infractions would result in a technical foul or potential ejection.
Despite the officiating friction and the early deficit, the Huskies maintained their composure.
Hurley's intensity sparked a defensive resurgence, as UConn forced 13 Duke turnovers and outscored the Blue Devils 44-28 in the second half to claw back into the game.
Huskies stun Duke at the horn
The contest culminated in a dramatic 73-72 victory for the Huskies. Duke held a three-point lead with 28 seconds remaining following a jumper by Cameron Boozer, who finished with a game-high 27 points.
However, UConn's Silas Demary Jr. split a pair of free throws, and after a critical Duke turnover, Braylon Mullins drained a transition three-pointer at the buzzer to seal the upset.
Tarris Reed Jr. anchored the UConn offense with 26 points and nine rebounds, while the Huskies' defense capitalized on Duke's mistakes with a 20-7 advantage in points off turnovers.
The victory ends Duke's 35-3 season and sends the Huskies to the Final Four. UConn is now scheduled to face No. 3 Illinois, with the winner advancing to the national championship to face either Arizona or Michigan.
