- NFL. The truth about Travis Kelce's contract: There are not two more years left after this season
The draft projection for former Notre Dame star Jeremiyah Love has shifted from a mid-top-10 consideration to a potential top-five lock, complicating the plans of several quarterback-needy teams.
While the Washington Commanders have spent weeks heavily linked to the explosive running back at the No. 7 spot, a new consensus is forming that Love will likely be off the board long before general manager Adam Peters turns in his card.
On Tuesday's edition of NFL on ESPN, former New York Jets General Manager Mike Tannenbaum dismissed the idea of Love falling to Washington, instead pointing to the New York Giants as the most logical destination for the Heisman-caliber runner.
Tannenbaum's analysis hinges on the dramatic identity shift currently underway in East Rutherford. Following the dismissal of Brian Daboll, the Giants (valued by Forbes at $10.1 billion) made the blockbuster hire of John Harbaugh in January 2026 to stabilize a franchise coming off a 4-13 season.
With the No. 5 overall pick in hand, Tannenbaum believes Harbaugh's storied preference for physical, run-heavy football makes Love an irresistible target, even with other glaring needs on the roster.
"It's a pipe dream [that Love stays on the board until the Commanders' No. 7 pick]. I'd be surprised if Tennessee pass on," Tannenbaum said during the broadcast. "But I'd be shocked if the Giants, if you think about John Harbaugh, what does he stand for? Toughness. There is no better way to establish toughness than an effective running game. If you wanna develop a young quarterback in Jaxson Dart, ... what he can do in the passing game, to me, is hugely consequential. I just can't imagine John Harbaugh, in year one, who's there to establish a new culture, a new identity, would pass on somebody as talented as Jeremiyah Love."
Supporting Jaxson Dart
The prospect of pairing Love with second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart has become a central theme for the Giants' 2026 outlook. Dart, who flashed significant potential during a modest but promising rookie season, is viewed as the franchise's cornerstone.
To protect that investment, Harbaugh has already overhauled the coaching staff, bringing in Matt Nagy as offensive coordinator and Brian Callahan as passing game coordinator. Adding Love would provide Dart with a versatile "three-down" weapon capable of alleviating the pressure of a high-sack environment.
However, the path to the Meadowlands is not without obstacles. The Tennessee Titans, holding the No. 4 pick and led by new head coach Robert Saleh, reportedly have Love ranked as a premier talent in the 2026 class.
