Colorado head coach Deion Sanders says his health and mobility are improving following years of surgeries and medical challenges, expressing renewed energy ahead of the Buffaloes' upcoming season.

Speaking Friday on Thee Pregame Network with Uncle Neely, Sanders reflected on his recovery after battling cancer during the 2025 offseason while continuing to manage hereditary blood clots in his legs - a condition that has required multiple surgeries over the past five years and left him with a persistent limp.

Despite those setbacks, Sanders said recent progress has significantly improved his ability to lead the program.

I'm energized to do what I know we're capable of doing, and that's winning. I mean winning winning - not just getting bowl eligible but winning winning.

Recovery journey reshapes perspective

Sanders emphasized that the recovery process itself has been meaningful, saying his appreciation for the journey has grown throughout the ordeal.

I love the moments, and I love the journey," Sanders said. "A lot of people just like to get to the end... I like to go through the journey.

During Colorado's struggles in 2025, Sanders' mobility was noticeably limited as he rehabilitated following surgery. He previously clarified that the blood clots are hereditary and unrelated to workload or coaching intensity.

"It has nothing to do with me working at the level that I'm trying to compete at," Sanders said before undergoing surgery last October. "It's hereditary... nothing that I could have done to stop what's transpiring."

Renewed energy carries into new season

With continued improvement, Sanders believes his restored energy will translate into a stronger on-field presence during spring practice and preseason training camp.

The coach's health has been closely watched by fans and observers, particularly as Colorado looks to develop a reshaped roster following a challenging season.

Sanders expressed confidence that both his recovery and the program's progress will become evident in 2026, signaling optimism that the Buffaloes can take a meaningful competitive step forward.
