Things are not looking good for Aden Holloway. As details of the Alabama Crimson Tide guard's arrest continue to surface, his legal situation appears far more complicated than initially reported.
Holloway, a five-star prospect in the class of 2022, transferred to Alabama in 2024 after two seasons with the Auburn Tigers.
Reports of his arrest began circulating Monday morning, just hours after the Crimson Tide was named the fourth seed in the Midwest Region of the NCAA Tournament.
He was booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail and later released on $5,000 bail. However, new information about the arrest is only now coming to light.
Charges against Holloway
According to the New York Post, agents with the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force searched Holloway's residence in the 400 block of East 30th Avenue on Monday at approximately 8:45 a.m.
Police reported that the search uncovered more than two pounds of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and cash. Holloway was charged with first-degree possession.
Additionally, he faces a second felony charge for failing to affix a tax stamp.
AL.com reported that officers also found loose marijuana and some in a vacuum-sealed bag, along with a rolling tray and packing materials.
Holloway's response
According to charging documents obtained by AL.com, a narcotics agent stated:
Holloway said he wanted to remain silent, but then added that he only smoked.
While the investigation continues, Alabama has removed Holloway from the men's basketball roster. The university confirmed that the Office of Student Conduct is reviewing the case.
Head coach Nate Oats commented: "We had to suspend him pending the investigation. We're certainly disappointed in his behavior."
