It was a tumultuous day of news surrounding Sherrone Moore, the now former head coach for the Michigan Wolverines, who was fired for cause on Wednesday. Hours after his firing, he was detained by police in nearby Saline, a few miles outside of Ann Arbor, according to ESPN. The dismissal was not due to the team's on-field results, though they weren't spectacular, with a combined 17-8 record over two years and no playoff appearances after he took over the team that won the National Championship in 2023 when Moore was the offensive coordinator.

Instead, the firing was due to an alleged inappropriate relationship with a staff member identified as Paige Shiver.

Shiver's 55% Salary Hike Raises Serious Questions

Moore is a married man with children, making this a serious but confirmed allegation. Athletic Director Warde Manuel issued a statement confirming the findings: "Following a university investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member."

Initial rumors surrounding the investigation were sparked by the fact that Shiver received a massive 55% pay increase for this season. Given her confirmed involvement with the coach, it's easy to deduce the reason for the sudden rise in her salary, though there are other versions of events that paint Moore as a true villain.

It is a delicate matter due Moore's family, but as time progresses, more rumors are surfacing, such as the unverified claim that after being fired, Moore went to Shiver's home and threatened her life, though police have yet to confirm this.

Michigan Names Interim Coach for Citrus Bowl Matchup

Moore, 39, just completed his second season as head coach after serving as an assistant coach on Jim Harbaugh's staff from 2018-2023. The Wolverines were 17-8 during his tenure, including a 9-3 finish this season. Associate head coach Biff Poggi will be Michigan's interim head coach for the upcoming Citrus Bowl against Texas on December 31st. Moore was earning $5.6 million in the second year of the five-year contract he signed after replacing Harbaugh.
