- NCAA. UConn vs. San Diego State in NCAA Championship: Final score and full game highlights from March Madness final
LSU Tigers star Angel Reese became the first member of her family to win the NCAA Tournament on Sunday. Connecticut Huskies guard Jordan Hawkins joined his cousin less than 24 hours later when his team defeated the San Diego State Aztecs.
Hawkins, 20, contibuted to UConn's fifth national championship in school history with 16 points in 29 minutes of action.
Reese, 20, finished her game with 15 points and 10 rebounds to set an NCAA record 34 double-doubles in a single season.
She went viral, however, for giving Iowa Hawkeyes guard Caitlin Clark a taste of her own medicine in the final seconds of the March Madness final.
While Hawkins didn't have a trending moment of his own, he did drain a clutch three down the final stretch, giving him over 20 made triples in the tournament. He also battled through illness in the Final Four victory over the Miami Hurricanes and shot a "wedgie."
How are Angel Reese and Jordan Hawkins related?
Reese and Hawkins grew up playing basketball together in Maryland, where the winner was often the LSU forward.
They are still close to this day and have been rooting for each other throughout the 2023 NCAA Tournament.
Reese's father, Michael Reese, is the brother of Hawkins' mother, who raised him in a single-parent household.
Growing up, Hawkins was very close to Reese's parents, who both played professional basketball overseas.
Basketball runs in the Reese-Hawkins family
Hawkins and Reese are not the only ones in their family currently playing college basketball.
Reese's brother, Julian Reese, plays for Maryland, while Hawkins' step-brother, Michael Hopkins, plays for St. Frances Academy.
Both Angel and Jordan are finishing their sophomore years, so a couple more NCAA titles could be on the horizon for the Reese-Hawkins family. If not them, then maybe one of their brothers.
For now, the Maryland cousins have done more than enough to feel proud, winning a national title on back-to-back nights.
