France's Stéphane Peterhansel won his 12th Dakar Rally this Saturday, the first one for Peugeot in the glittering career of the man they call 'Monsieur Dakar'.
"That nickname indicates that you have a lot of experience and that is very much the case as my first win was exactly 25 years ago. But this win was also made possible by the great job done by the Peugeot team, winning the Dakar in only their second year of taking part in it", Peterhansel said.
Peterhansel, a Dakar champion six times in the motorcycle division (1991, 1992, 1993, 1995, 1997 and 1998), and six in a car (2004, 2005, 2007, 2012, 2013 and 2016), came first with a substantial lead over Qatar's Nasser Al-Attiyah (Mini) who won it last year, and who came in 34 minutes and 58 seconds adrift.
And so Peugeot get their first win, in the second year since they returned to the Dakar Rally, thanks to one of the competition's legendary figures.
