Fox News host Jesse Watters' insensitive reporting over the death of Renee Nicole Good, the woman shot and killed by an ICE agent in Minnesota, has sparked contorversy.

"The woman who lost her life was a self-proclaimed poet from Colorado with pronouns in her bio. A 37-year-old White woman named Renee Good," he told his viewers. "The Daily Mail says she leaves behind a lesbian partner and a child from a previous marriage."

Watters added, "She was a disruptor, though she considered herself a legal observer. But there's no evidence she had a law degree."

A controversy-courting personality, Watters' comments drew criticism online, with one X user describing him as "not human" over his remarks, while others described him as having "zero morals".

Commenting under a video sharing Watters report, one X user posted: "He wants to make sure that his audience knows that even though she was a white woman and a mother, she was one of the other team, and they aren't supposed to feel sorry for her. He's got to spell it out for them".

Renee Good was fatally shot by an ICE agent during an immigration enforcement operation in Minneapolis, as large-scale raids continue under the Trump administration.

Competing narratives

Good's mother, Donna Ganger, confirmed the death but denied that Good was part of any organized anti-ICE effort.

"She was probably terrified," Ganger said, describing her daughter as "one of the kindest people I've ever known."

Ganger added, "She was extremely compassionate. She's taken care of people all her life. She was loving, forgiving and affectionate. She was an amazing human being."

City Council Member Jason Chavez called Good "an observer ... watching out for our immigrant neighbors," noting that she was a U.S. citizen.

Good suffered gunshot wounds to the head and was pronounced dead at a local hospital, according to city officials..

Good's ex-husband, Timmy Ray Macklin Jr., who died in 2023, had shared a 6-year-old child with her. The child has now lost both parents.

Good was also mother to two older children, ages 12 and 15, from her first marriage, according to the Associated Press.

After the shooting, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem accused Good of "stalking and impeding" ICE agents and labeled her actions as "domestic terrorism."

DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin claimed Good "weaponized her vehicle" against law enforcement, saying the agent feared for his life.

Former President Donald Trump blamed the left on Truth Social, calling Good "very disorderly" and alleging she attacked the ICE officer.

Democratic Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz rejected the administration's claims, promising a "full, fair, and expeditious investigation to ensure accountability and justice."

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey demanded ICE leave the city, saying, "We do not want you here. Your stated purpose is to create safety, but you are doing exactly the opposite."
