The cast of Euphoria is grieving the loss of their co-star Eric Dane, whose death at age 53 has sent shockwaves through Hollywood and among fans worldwide.

Dane, who portrayed Cal Jacobs, the deeply complicated father of Nate Jacobs, on the acclaimed HBO drama, passed away Thursday following a battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). As news of his death spread, heartfelt tributes began pouring in from colleagues who remembered not just his talent, but his warmth and generosity.

Sydney Sweeney, who plays Cassie Howard on Euphoria, shared an emotional homage on Instagram Stories. She reposted a clip from Dane's final recorded message to his daughters, Billie and Georgia - footage that appeared in the Famous Last Words.

Alongside the video, Sweeney wrote a brief but powerful message expressing that she would always love him.

Barbie Ferreira, known to fans as Kat Hernandez, also reshared the same moving clip. Her tribute was simple yet meaningful, marked by a single white heart emoji. The understated gesture reflected the collective sorrow felt by the cast, many of whom worked closely with Dane during the show's three-season run.

Series creator Sam Levinson released a statement describing Dane as both an extraordinary collaborator and a cherished friend. He said working with the actor had been an honor and that his absence would be deeply felt.

HBO issued its own message of condolence, expressing gratitude for Dane's contributions to the network and extending sympathies to his family during what it called an incredibly difficult time.

Remembering a career and a cause

Long before stepping into the role of Cal Jacobs, Dane had already built a lasting television legacy. Many viewers first connected with him through his portrayal of Dr. Mark Sloan on Grey's Anatomy, a role that made him a household name. Over the years, he demonstrated range, charisma and emotional depth across genres.

In recent years, however, Dane's focus shifted toward advocacy after his ALS diagnosis. Rather than retreating from public life, he chose to speak openly about the disease and champion efforts to fund research and raise awareness.

His family shared that he spent his final days surrounded by those closest to him - including his wife, Rebecca Gayheart, and their daughters - emphasizing that they were the center of his world.

The nonprofit I AM ALS also paid tribute, calling Dane a fierce advocate who used his platform to drive meaningful change. According to the organization, he was deeply committed to advancing policy initiatives and strengthening the ALS community.
