Taylor Swift unveiled her star-studded music video for "Opalite" on Friday, leaning into surreal storytelling and a sweeping roster of celebrity cameos as she continues the rollout of her latest chart-topping album.
The pop superstar premiered the visual on Spotify and Apple Music on Feb. 6, marking the second music video from her 2025 release The Life of a Showgirl.
The clip blends absurdist humor and nostalgic visuals, opening with a mock commercial for a fictional "Opalite" spray designed to turn "crappiness into happiness."
The narrative follows Swift forming an emotional bond with a gray rock pulled from a "best friend box," taking it on dates and crafting a friendship bracelet before meeting actor Domhnall Gleeson, whose own attachment to a cactus leads to a romantic arc.
Their story culminates in a choreographed dance sequence onstage in matching blue sequined jumpsuits, while the rock and cactus are later displayed together in a shopping mall scene.
Swift's star-studded cast in new video
Swift said the concept stemmed from an idea sparked during an October 2025 appearance on The Graham Norton Show, where Gleeson jokingly suggested appearing in one of her videos.
The remark inspired Travis Kelce's girlfriend to invite fellow guests and collaborators to participate, turning the project into what she described as a collaborative creative experiment.
Additional cameos include Greta Lee as a TV singer, Jodie Turner-Smith leading an aerobics class, Lewis Capaldi as a photographer, Graham Norton portraying a salesman for the fictional spray.
Oscar-winner Cillian Murphy featured on a billboard advertisement. Eras Tour dancer Kameron Saunders appears as a judge scoring Swift and Gleeson's performance.
Swift teased the release earlier in the week via her website with a countdown clock and confirmed the video will reach YouTube audiences on Feb. 8, a delayed platform debut that follows YouTube's removal of streaming data from Billboard chart calculations announced in December.
Swift is breaking records with her new album
"Opalite" follows the video for lead single "The Fate of Ophelia" as Swift extends promotion of The Life of a Showgirl, which sold 4 million units in its first week and became her 15th No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 - giving her the record for most chart-topping albums among solo artists.
All tracks from the album also entered the Billboard Hot 100 during release week, occupying the top 12 positions.
