The stars appear to be aligning for a reunion between Mauricio Pochettino and Tottenham Hotspur. The legendary manager not only seems willing but also eager to return to English football, despite his current role with the U.S. Men's National Team (USMNT).

The 2025-26 Premier League season has been a nightmare for Spurs. Under interim manager Igor Tudor, the team has posted a 0-1-4 record in its last five matches.

Although Tudor briefly seemed to steady the ship, Tottenham's recent slump has reignited speculation about a change in leadership. Attention has quickly shifted to Pochettino, who recently expressed his longing for English football.

Pochettino's future after the World Cup

Currently managing the USMNT, Pochettino is preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup this summer. His contract expires at the end of the tournament, leaving his future wide open.

In a recent interview with L'Équipe, Pochettino admitted:

I miss the world of football in England. I love the country, its culture, the football culture.

He added, "For anyone with a competitive spirit who wants to measure themselves against others and test their abilities, it's the ideal place. There, you have to constantly give your best."

What does this mean for Tottenham?

While a return to the USMNT cannot be ruled out, several international outlets consider Pochettino the leading candidate for the Spurs job.

According to The Telegraph, the Argentine coach and former Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi are the frontrunners to replace Tudor.

With the World Cup fast approaching, Tottenham fans will have to wait to see if they will be reunited with one of the most celebrated managers in club history.
