One of the saddest days for Mexican boxing will undoubtedly be September 13, 2025, after Saúl "Canelo" Álvarez experienced a night to forget. The Jalisco native stepped into the ring at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, to defend his super middleweight titles against Terence Crawford, who had moved up two weight divisions to challenge for Canelo's 168-pound belts.

It was a complete nightmare for Canelo. Crawford not only handled the jump in weight perfectly but also delivered a spectacular performance in the ring. The Mexican champion never found his rhythm, and in the end, Crawford became the new undisputed super middleweight champion (168 lbs), stripping Álvarez of all his titles.

The judges scored the fight for Crawford: 116-112, 115-113, and 115-113. Canelo lost his undisputed super middleweight crown, a reign he had held for many years. A rematch? We don't know yet, but Crawford clearly proved to be far superior to the Mexican.

At nearly 38 years old, Terence Crawford's legacy is simply spectacular: he has become a world champion in five different weight divisions, including being undisputed in two of them, solidifying his place among the greatest boxers in history.

Crawford has fought from 135 pounds up to 168 pounds-the latter seemed nearly impossible-but he moved up two divisions to face Canelo and did it in unforgettable fashion. On the Patt McAfee Show, he practically stated that nothing is impossible: "A lot of people kept saying that what I was trying to accomplish was impossible, and I just kept saying, 'It's impossible until somebody does it.'"

Now, we'll have to wait to see if a rematch happens, but Crawford's dominance over Canelo was so clear that a second fight could be complicated. However, business is business, and we'll see if the two fighters face each other again in 2026.
