Jaime Munguia brings Canelo Alvarez down to earth: He hits normal, no big deal

Jaime Munguia lost his undefeated record after 43 fights when he faced Canelo Alvarez in May, with the multi-time champion earning a unanimous decision victory.

Since then, the Tijuana fighter is preparing to face Erik Bazinyan, who holds an undefeated record of 32-0-1, in a bout scheduled for two weeks from now. Munguia hopes to get back on the winning track in this boxing matchup.

Jaime Munguia: Canelo is Strong, but He Hits Normally

Despite his upcoming fight on September 20th, much of the conversation surrounding Munguia has been about his future beyond this bout.

That could include a possible rematch with Canelo Alvarez, a showdown with David Benavidez, and the chance to compete for the WBA Super Middleweight title, which was vacated by Canelo.

Munguia spoke about his May fight against Alvarez in an interview with Fight Hub, describing the Guadalajara native as a fighter with a "normal" punch.

"His punches are normal, not exactly devastating... Canelo is strong, but his punches feel normal, nothing extraordinary," Munguia said. "The knockdown happened because he caught me on the chin, it wasn't like I felt an incredibly powerful punch.

"I think I got a bit tired, and that's when I started missing my punches, slowing down...

"After the knockdown, instead of stepping back and waiting a bit, I wanted to go after him, so I think I made some mistakes."

Canelo vs Munguia 2 Isn't Off the Table

Jaime Munguia told ESPN that he isn't ruling out the possibility of a rematch with Saul Alvarez, believing their first fight was a great event.

He said: "I'm not ruling out a rematch (against Alvarez). It was a great fight for me, for us, for the fans, and a rematch could be a really good fight."
